Inspiration

Dear readers, I constantly fantasize about decorating a new place.  For some reason I'm never satisfied.  As you know, I've been living in old buildings for the last several years and I crave clean and modern.  Some days I dream of a peaceful monochromatic home in aqua and turquoise.  Other days it's all white with pops of hot pink.  Here are some of my favorites from around the web this week.  Hope you enjoy!

I suppose this gorgeous bedroom doesn't really fit here, except that I love it!  Love the white headboard.  But even more than that, I adore the windows, and how the outside is part of the decor.  The pink panel is too fab.  I love the light it casts.  Would be amazing to watch how the light changes throughout the day.  Image via Desire to Inspire.

Pink Bedroom!

Sometimes this blog takes on a life of its own.  I have a schedule of posts and then they get interrupted by something too fab not to mention.  Such is the case today.  I have a lot of art I'd like to show you this week, but I could not wait to show you this divine bedroom!  Sometimes I think I should've devoted a blog entirely to pink.

Aaah.  I could live in a home done entirely in pink.  I think bubble gum pink is my all time favorite.  I think I love it even more than hot pink and I love me some hot pink.  I also adore monochrome.  Notice the variety of textures.  And that chandelier is too fabulous.  It's no surprise that this room is by my favorite designer, Benjamin Noriega-Ortiz.  This is the bedroom in his retreat in the Rockaways.  To see more of the home, see the article in New York Home Design.  Stay tuned, art coming up as promised.

Over the top pink

The changes to my decorating style are scaring me a little.  I seem to be drawn more and more to over the top, girly decor.  One thing that remains consistent is my love of pink.  Any room I decorate must have a large amount of pink.  Here are some over the top pink rooms from around the web.  Hope you enjoy!

Just for fun, I couldn't live here.  But it does show that a pink sofa looks great with lilac walls.  Desire to Inspire.

Adrian Briscoe.  I really dig those hanging lamps!  This is a great idea if your bedroom is too small for nightstands (as mine is).  I need that rug!  I've seen the fun pattern on the headboard many times.  I'd guess it is an Amy Butler fabric, but don't know for sure.  Please contact me if you know the designer of this fabric.

These hot pink club chairs were used on Emily Henderson's show.  They didn't make the cut, but man I am digging them.  I'd like to have them in my place.

Bedroom color inspiration - pink, gray and violet

Dear readers, you know how it is.  Obsession.  Sometimes an idea can grab hold and it won't let go.  Such are the thoughts of my bedroom decor.  Should I turn it into a restful oasis or should I turn it into a studio?  For now I'm thinking restful oasis, but that could change any minute.  

 

Of course I am obsessing about color.  As you know, color occupies my mind most of the day.  And needless to say, any color scheme I contemplate will include pink.  I am loving pink combined with gray and violet.  And maybe a splash of turquoise - my second favorite color.  Here are some photos from my inspiration file.

Monochrome can be very restful.  I'd like to paint my walls violet.  Here's an idea to steal from Living etc magazine, March 2011.  They've painted the wall and the frame of the mirror the same color.  I love it.   By  having this ornate piece blend rather than pop, they've made it appear simpler.  Monochrome is a great trick if you are trying to unify disparate objects.

Here are some beautiful pillows I saw at Pier One.  I know I'm guilty of one of the biggest design mistakes - too many pillows.  I can't help it.  I love them (along with pottery and lamps).  I didn't buy these, though they were tempting.  The three would've cost around $90.  Too steep for my budget, but they are gorgeous.

Bedroom inspiration

Here's a few more pictures from my inspiration file that fit with my current thoughts on color.  As always, I am digging hot pink.  I love it in small pops in a black and white room.  Sage is a color I've recently fallen in love with (see previous post here).  I've always loved chartreuse.  Sage is a more subdued, mysterious green.  It looks great with pink.

A pop of yellow, II

Yellow is such a happy color. A little goes a long way. It looks especially great as an accent color in all white rooms. But you don't need to stop there, yellow also looks great with pink, purple, gray, silver, black and turquoise, to name just a few. A pop of yellow can easily be added to any room with a vase, pillow, rug or throw. Here are some pictures from my inspiration file. Hope you enjoy!

Beautiful room by Jacquelyn Clark at lark & linen. I love pops of yellow in mostly white interiors. The yellow pillows and flowers really pop.

Check this awesome minimal space! This place may be small in space - only 125 square feet - but it's large on style. I love all the white. Love the feminine touch provided by the white chandelier. Love the rug, and of course the punch of the yellow throw. Silver looks great with yellow, so the bust is also a great punch. A marvelous achievement in restraint. How cute is this painting by Jessica Swift? The yellow dress and the nest of bird's eggs on her head make me think of Spring. I have a thing for faceless paintings, I find them so romantic and mysterious (see previous post here).

Bedroom Inspiration

Dear readers, I hope that over the next few days you will humor me while I obsess about decorating my new apartment.  I'm pretty excited about having a bedroom, and I plan to keep it pretty simple.  I do want it to be a little moody, maybe gray, very romantic and flirting with minimalism.  Here are some pictures from my inspiration files.  These have been uploaded with the new photo editor in Google, which I think is working very well.  Seems to be easier making the pictures large.

Alcove Inspiration

Dear readers, as you know, I am obsessing about decorating my new apartment.

There's a funny alcove in the front of the apartment. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it. I need to see my stuff in the place. I'm thinking of putting the bed there and turning the bedroom into a studio (or vice versa). Here's some pictures from my inspiration file.

You probably remember Maria's sublime place. She was the winner of Apartment Therapy's Small Cool 2010, international division. I just may put my bed by the alcove and hang some curtains for mystery and romance.

Also from Apartment Therapy. This bed needs no headboard. And it's perfectly balanced by the tables.

I've featured this room before, I love it so. This is Danielle's bedroom, from one of my favorite blogs, The Style Files. This room is so ethereal. Love the architecture in lieu of a headboard. Love the white. Love the lamps. Love the Moroccan wedding blanket. I've always wanted one.

I just had to feature this amazing platform bed! The best design always attempts to solve problems, and this would have solved a lot of problems in my last apartment, where I was always moving things around. The handle is genius! Image via Apartment Therapy.

Large Paintings

Dear readers, you know how it happens. You get a shape in your head. It won't go away. Then you see colors swirl all about. Everywhere you look is color and movement. The desire to put brush to canvas is almost unbearable. I paint because I must. When paintings are brewing in my head, I like to look at paintings by others that inspire me. Kind of like the writer, who reads everything. I love the look of a large painting anchoring a place. Groupings tend to look cluttered to me. Here are some large paintings that I adore. Elle Decor.

I adore the painting over the dresser. I would love to ruthlessly edit this room. The only thing I would leave on the dresser is the lamp, and I would move it to the left. I believe I got this image from Flickr. I love this painting coupled with the dark walls. I'd like to edit the grouping. I would leave the lamp and probably two or three of the glass pieces, but that's it.

I think this might be a decal, but I love it! Again I apologize for not knowing the artist. I need to be more careful about that in the future. I love to give proper credit.
