Feeling Blue!

As promised, we are going to do an exploration of the color blue over the next few days.  Blue is a soft and calming color, often associated with healing in color psychology.  It looks great with pink, yellow and orange.  It looks great with purple and with the gray.  There are so many beautiful shades of blue.  Today we are going to look at every girl's favorite - Tiffany box blue.  I've been seeing it everywhere in decor and especially love it on accent walls.  We will also look at baby blue, pastel blue and turquoise.

No She Didn't opaque lipstick by Lime Crime.  Could you dare?  This lip stick would be totally fab with a pink streak in your hair.

Got Legs? Part Two

In my post below, I featured a beautiful apartment where all the furniture has legs.  I love the look of elevating the furniture from the floor.  It makes a place look airy.  That's why I am in love with my Danish sofa.  I adore ottomans with legs and bookcases with legs.  Turns out I am not the only one obsessed.  Here are some great ideas if you need add or show off legs in your place.

I love this idea!  Custom legs for Ikea furniture by Pretty Pegs.   Those pink ones are pretty sweet.  Would be fun to make a coffee table using those.

I've been seeing this look a lot lately, where it looks like the legs have been dipped in paint.  I especially love when it looks like they have been dipped in a neon color.

Also love the look where the legs are exposed.  Kind of like the chair is wearing panty hose.  Sexy.  Above two images Koskela via My Attic.

Designer extraordinaire, Anna from Door Sixteen is a master at injecting hot pink into her mostly black and white home.  She painted these legs on her sofa.  I'm thinking about copying this idea.

Here's another great idea called the Tick System by designer Jacob Schenk.  The legs are wire sculpted into a pure form.  They can be easily hooked onto any piece of wood to make a simple looking table.  Another great idea in sustainability.  I love them.  I hope we will be able to get these in the U.S.

A trip to Columbus

My sister-in-law and I went to a mall in Columbus, Ohio last week.  You may recall that I visited a mall in Troy, Michigan recently.  Again, I am mystified as to why Cleveland has nothing like these malls.    Cleveland has many strip clubs and is supposed to get a new casino.  But no where to buy a beautiful sofa for your industrial loft.  Maybe I should run for Mayor.  I apologize for the political digression.  Here are some pretty things I saw at the mall in Columbus.

I was thrilled to see the West Elm store!  I've only shopped West Elm via the internet, so it was great to experience its tactile reality.  I love this little staged dining area,  Display can be so inspirational.  The white-washed wood on the wall makes a great installation piece.

Here are some of their beautiful vases in my favorite finish, matte white.  Seeing them in person really puts them in perspective for me.  These are very large, too large for my place.  I have trouble visualizing sizes from the online stores.

I love these tables!  I took these two photos at a shoe store.  I tend to marvel over fixtures more than I do merchandise.  I love these tables.  There was a lot more beautiful furniture, a large wrap around ottoman-like sofa in a beautiful turquoise color.  A beautiful armoire.  But the sales woman passionately chased me out of the store.  I thought she was going to take my camera!  She accused me of being a paparazzi.  Hmm.  Never really thought about it, but I guess I am.  But I have no intention of stealing designs, merely showing them off.

These two photos were taken at Crate and Barrel.  The sofa is such a beautiful color.  I love this modern white lacquered dresser.  I'd love to have this dresser for my flat screen TV.

Office inspiration from dining rooms

Today I was obsessing about how to make my office space more beautiful.  This is a concern for more people everyday, as our home increasing becomes a work/live space.  For me, the answer to my office dilemma seems to come from dining room inspiration.  I don't need a dining room, but do need an office.  I need a very large table to spread out, and a buffet is the perfect solution for beautiful storage.  I especially love the look of a light rustic table in reclaimed wood, or pickled pine, combined with modern chairs, lighting and art.  Here are some photos from my inspiration file.  I think any of these could be turned into a fine office.

These pink modern chairs look fabulous with this table, and work well in this industrial loft.  The rustic theme of the column is repeated in table and is balanced nicely by the more feminine chandelier.  I'd love a work space like this.  I'm sure abundant creativity would flow from this space.  Image Fritz Hansen.

Inspiration is Everywhere, Part III

Today in my travels I came across these pieces at a wonderful store named Sweet Lorain. The lovely new owner was very patient with me, he let me play and rearrange. It was great fun. If I were rich I would have bought all these pieces. They would look great in an atomic ranch. Oh well, they are now part of my virtual collection. I adore the Italian inspired day bed and the mod turquoise lamps. I also adore the coffee and end tables. I am not familiar with this style. They were a very light weight laminate. If you can identify the designer of these pieces, please email me.

a cute little table

The previous owner of my home had great taste and was very chic. She left behind some cute things, including this table that I am using as my bedside table (and also those fab curtains, see post below).

I'm thinking about painting it yellow. Whenever contemplating paint colors, I turn to my very large inspiration folder.

These yellow floating shelves look great against the gray walls. If I paint my table yellow, I may need to do a gray accent wall. My next apartment will definitely have accent walls. Love the silver and yellow Buddhas.

Or maybe I should paint it white. Love this coffee table and sofa. This may be the best example of granny chic I have ever seen. What really makes this room work is those white floors. As you know, I love white floors.

Oh no, Chiasso!

Today was another beautiful sunny day. I have a big case of Spring fever. My Chiasso catalog arrived today, such a treat. Apparently, the buyers, stylists, editors and photographers at Chiasso have Spring fever as well. The cover is gorgeous! So - ahem - sunny.

I love the sunset artwork, the white sofa, the rug. The donetello coffee table is too groovy. I want it! It reminds me of Patricia Urquiola's fat fat table (see previous post here). Space age design with pops of color from the painting and rug. Fabulous use of yellow. Congrats on a beautiful cover to the staff of Chiasso.

I love this use of yellow, but my obsession for turquoise continues. I have been doing a lot of Spring cleaning. Letting go and clearing out feels good, it's time to lighten up. How is your Spring cleaning going?
