A pop of yellow, II

Yellow is such a happy color. A little goes a long way. It looks especially great as an accent color in all white rooms. But you don't need to stop there, yellow also looks great with pink, purple, gray, silver, black and turquoise, to name just a few. A pop of yellow can easily be added to any room with a vase, pillow, rug or throw. Here are some pictures from my inspiration file. Hope you enjoy!

Check this awesome minimal space! This place may be small in space - only 125 square feet - but it's large on style. I love all the white. Love the feminine touch provided by the white chandelier. How cute is this painting by Jessica Swift? The yellow dress and the nest of bird's eggs on her head make me think of Spring. I have a thing for faceless paintings, I find them so romantic and mysterious (see previous post here).

A pop of yellow

I've been craving a pop of yellow in my apartment. Maybe I'm trying to make my apartment more sunny since it's freezing outside!

I've been wanting these cups from CB2 for a long time. This is a good time to order. They're a bargain at $2.95 each.

This is a coffee station in Anna from Door Sixteen's house. Isn't it fab? And look she has those cups! Yep. I need to order.

Pottery Jones

Dear readers, as you know, I'm always obsessing about white pottery. Especially matte white, porcelain. Here are some beauties.

Aren't those lace vases beautiful? Amazing collection of vintage white vases. I love the shape of vintage white vases, but they tend to be off white. I prefer true white. But the sculptural beauty of these can't be denied. Images 100 Layer Cake, Marketplace.

Have you ever used Picnik? It's fun! I'm hooked on the posterize effect. This is a posterize of my previous bedroom. Of course I love all the pink.

The Handmade Pledge

Many bloggers have taken the handmade pledge for this holiday season. I love this sentiment. Since money is low this season, I am planning to make gifts for my loved ones. Don't worry if you can't knit, or if you don't have time. You don't have to make gifts, you can buy handmade from artisans. Etsy makes it particularly easy to do so.

For example, these cool decoupage bottles featuring pages from Alice in Wonderland would make great gifts. Available from Greencycledesigns.

Isn't this hand painted Tonka truck the coolest? I'm thinking of making a couple of these. It would be cool to paint graffiti on miniature trains too. Unfortunately, I can't remember where I got this image - please contact me if you know the artist.

Art toys!

I love urban vinyl toys. They are works of art and make great sculpture. If you like street art, animation, comic books or manga, then you will love urban vinyl. The miracle of plastic renders the characters of artists' imaginations in 3D. Many of these toys come in limited editions. Here are a few of my favorites.

I know you all love different artists' renderings of the ubiquitous Hello Kitty. This is one of my favorites. It's by the fab Tara McPherson, who I've written about many times. I adore her work.

Here it is rendered in 3D form. I really want this one! But at $40.00, it's too steep for my budget. At least now it's in my digital collection. Available from KidRobot.

This is Sweety from Stephane Levallois' toxic candy series. I love the irony of her head being a piece of wrapped candy, and that she wears braces on her teeth. I saw this toy live at a record store recently and it is so cute. Again, at $40.00 a little too pricey for me. Available at My Plastic Heart.

I am so in love with the work of Yoshitomo Nara, I can't believe I've never featured him on this blog. I need to devote an entire post to him, and he definitely needs to be included in my Chick Art series. This is the Little Wanderer and Pup Cup. Update: Just learned that 20 years of Yoshitomo Nara's work is being exhibited in NYC at the Asia Society Museum. Wish I could afford to attend. Check out the curator's video. Awesome.

Inspiration in Junk Mail

I've had this picture in my inspiration folder for a while. It was in a flyer I received from Bath and Body Works. I think it would make a fab rug design.

If I knew a rug designer (and had a ton of money), I'd have this made into a rug, I'd even keep the edges like shown. Of course, then I'd need a fabulous modern white sofa. And an acrylic table so that I could see the image through it.

Think Pink

Dear readers, I'll admit it. I've been suffering from the holiday blues. Well, there's only one cure for the blues - and that is pink! It never fails, when I think about pink I get cheered up. You can never have too much pink. As I've said many times, pink is not just for girls. Pink can be done in a thoroughly modern and edgy way. Have a look, you'll be in the pink too!

I always wanted a pink kitchen! This one is so fab, and fresh. It looks totally modern. Flickr user rosaperfecto via My Mod Style. I love how sparse the kitchen is, and that it's not overly-girly. Clutter and tschotskes would ruin this look. The Hello Kitty toaster is totally fab, it works because it's not competing with a lot of stuff. However, I do think she needs some dishes that really pop in those glass cupboards.

These fab dishes from Karim Rashid would work well.

simple luxury

there's a little known place, called mama turtle's cafe. you're always welcome. we're mostly vegan, but trying to get to 100%. we don't believe in cruelty to animals (or any being for that matter).

it's protected by papa llama. the patron saint of organic and vegan diets.

it's all about peace and love. art from the local scene hangs on the wall. the mood is quiet, people nod to the smooth bass.

the food is simple, the table humble, but always colorful and pretty.

tonight's special was Spanish rice with chick peas. yummy.

pull up an ottoman and enjoy some jasmine tea. take your time. no need to rush.
